Pune: The Pimpri Chinchwad crime branch on Saturday arrested two men and seized 65 grams of cosmetics drug Mephedrone (MD), a motorcycle, and three cellphones collectively worth Rs 7.5 lakh from them.
The arrested duo have been identified as Imran Shaikh (32) of Kondhwa and Samir Shaikh (40) of Mahim in Mumbai. Investigations revealed that they had brought drugs from a Nigerian national in Nalasopara in Palghar district.
A team from the anti-narcotics cell of the Pimpri Chinchwad police received a tip-off that the duo were preparing to sell these drugs near Bhujbal Chowk on the Wakad-Hinjewadi Road. They laid a trap and arrested the duo, an officer from the Hinjewadi police said.
During questioning, the duo revealed the details of the Nigerian national from whom they brought the drugs. They were in the process of selling it to a person in Pune. “We have some clues about the Nigerian national. We are working on it,” the officer said.
