Maha govt to stop Wakad project over allegations of irregularities: Ajit Pawar | Pune News – Times of India

Pune: Deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar on Saturday said the state government has decided to stop the controversial TDR deal regarding a reserved land in the Wakad area of Pimpri Chinchwad following allegations of irregularities.
Pawar, while speaking at a press conference, said the state government took the decision after verifying details about the issue with the chief secretary and several other officials, including those from urban development department.
“After verifying the details with everyone I came to the conclusion that something is wrong with this deal. Hence, I decided to stop it,” he said.
Leader of opposition Vijay Wadettiwar, during the winter session of the state assembly, had alleged irregularities in the deal to give the Transfer of Development Rights (TDR) to a private builder against the development of reserved land for PMPML bus depot in Wakad area of Pimpri Chinchwad.Wadettiwar had alleged that the deal aims to provide a benefit of Rs 681 crore to the private builder.
Municipal commissioner of Pimpri Chinchwad Shekhar Singh had denied the allegations and said the builder was given amenity TDR considering the facilities that are part of the project.
The civic body aims to build a 21-floor building with highest specification in terms of design and on-site amenities on the 2.5 acre reserved land for PMPML in Wakad.
According to the proposed plan, the municipal corporation has plans to build the commercial complex above the PMPML depot with an aim to generate an annual revenue of Rs 60 crore though rent.
Earlier, Singh had also said the civic body is trying to analyse the objections and will not go ahead with the project even if there is one per cent of doubt. Pawar said he has also discussed the matter with his counterpart Devendra Fadnavis.
“Since urban development department is with the chief minister we will meet him on Monday over this issue. The CM has also received several complaints regarding this deal,” Pawar added.
As per the sanctioned development plan, the construction for PMPML bus depot had to be carried out as per the provisions of the Unified Development Control and Promotion Regulations (UDCPR). However, now the project will no longer see the light of the day.
