The ministry of housing & urban development affairs (MoHUA) recently announced the ‘Swachh’ ranking results of the urban municipalities in the country, and has come to light that SCB’s performance was found to be unsatisfactory.“We expected rank-3 to reach the aim of garbage free city (GFC) category, but slipped to rank-1,” a senior SCB official said.
“Still, the garbage system in the Cantonment is requires improved. The garbage system was adopted from neighboring GHMC. More importantly, officials have to make sure that garbage is lifted from all the by-lanes of the nearly 400 residential colonies. Officials are taking up garbage lifting activity on the main roads and got the impression that they are maintaining clean roads at the ministry level,” CV Bhaskar, a resident of Bowenpally said.
“Unless the entire garbage system is enhanced in the Cantonment, they can’t achieve their target to become garbage-free Cantonment,” RWAs of the Cantonment area concluded.
“This fresh result has fixed more responsibility on us. We have launched many initiatives in garbage systems and streamlined door-to-door garbage collection systems through the twin bins system,” a senior SCB official told TOI.
Moreover, SCB deployed a modern fleet for the collection of garbage on the lines of adjoining municipalities and increased manpower also, the official explained.
