What is UPI Lite?
Before dwelling into the steps and things to note, it is important to understand UPI LIte. So, UPI Lite is a new payment solution that relies on a trusted NPCI Common Library (CL) application for low value transactions. The important part here is that these transactions are PIN-free and it acts as a wallet where users can load some amount and make payments on the go. Also, the payment limit is limited to Rs 500 per transaction.

Things to keep in mind
- Make sure that the app is set up properly and at least one supported bank account is linked with it.
- Also, SMS service is necessary for receiving activation notification.
- Do note that these transactions won’t show up in the bank statement.
- The transaction limit is set to Rs 500
- Wallet amount is limited to Rs 2,000
- Total amount for transactions is set to Rs 4,000 in 24 hours.
Steps to enable UPI Lite in Google Pay
– Open Google Pay app on your smartphone (make sure it is updated)
– Look for the “Activate UPI Lite” option. If you can’t see the option, tap on the profile icon and then look for it.
– Tap on it and accept the terms and conditions (if asked)
– Now, enter the amount you want to add, select bank account and enter your UPI PIN
– You’ll see an “Activating UPI Lite” message on the screen and receive a SMS once its done.
Steps to enable UPI Lite in Paytm
– Open the app and find the UPI Lite icon on the main screen.
– Pick your bank account for UPI Lite.
– Enter the amount you want to add to your UPI Lite account.
– Confirm your MPIN to create your UPI Lite account.
– Now, your UPI Lite account is ready, and you can make quick payments with just one tap.
Steps to enable UPI Lite in BHIM
– On home screen of the App, tap on enable UPI Lite
– Enter the amount to add in UPI LITE and select the Bank account
– Enter UPI PIN to activate it
Steps to enable UPI Lite in PhonePe
Select UPI Lite from the home screen of your PhonePe app. Alternatively, click on your profile picture, then choose UPI Lite from the Payment Methods section.
– Click on “Add Money” and enter the desired amount.
– Select the bank account you want to link with UPI Lite.
– Tap on “Add Money.”
– Enter your UPI PIN.
How to make payments using UPI Lite
To make payments using UPI Lite, simply scan a QR code or enter the number or choose one from the contacts list. Enter the amount and make the payment without the PIN.
