14 Oppn Parties To Join Rahul In Assam Leg Of March | Guwahati News – Times of India

Guwahati: Fourteen opposition parties, including TMC, AAP, JD (U), RJD, CPM and regional parties Assam Jatiya Parishad and Raijor Dal, will join Rahul Gandhi during Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra in Assam, the United Opposition Forum (UOF) Assam confirmed on Monday.
After traversing from the starting point in Imphal, the yatra will enter Assam through Nagaland. It will then proceed towards the frontier state of Arunachal Pradesh and again return towards Assam and will pass through Meghalaya before leaving northeast through western Assam.The yatra is scheduled to travel through 833 km — the longest distance to be covered in any northeastern state. It is likely to be covered in eight days in Assam.
While some of the opposition parties were not certain of joining Rahul Gandhi till a few days ago, the opposition forum, in a statement on Monday, confirmed that all 15 parties of the United Opposition Forum (UOF), Assam will join the yatra.
A meeting of the opposition parties was held on Sunday evening to come to a conclusion on joining the yatra. Assam PCC president Bhupen Borah was present at the meeting.
UOF’s Assam general secretary Lurinjyoti Gogoi on Monday said the entire opposition will participate in the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra only to defeat BJP and AIUDF in Assam in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls. The representatives of the other opposition parties will also sit together with Rahul Gandhi in a meeting during the yatra, read the statement.
Gogoi said in the conventions of the yatra, the other opposition parties will also participate.
As per the route map of the Manipur to Mumbai yatra released by Congress, it will be second longest in Assam (833 km), after Uttar Pradesh where it will traverse through a distance of 1074 km. The yatra will commence on January 14 from Manipur and is likely to reach Assam on January 18. Altogether, 17 districts of Assam are about to be covered during the yatra.
