Hyderabad: Buzz is missing around what is touted as Asia’s largest life sciences annual conclave – BioAsia, which enters 21st edition this year. Though BioAsia 2024 is to be held from February 26 to 28, preparations for the mega event are yet to begin in earnest.
The only information on the event’s website is the names of five keynote speakers and the event theme — ‘Data and AI: Redefining Possibilities’, both of which were announced by former minister KT Rama Rao by September 2023.The keynote speakers are Bristol Myers Squibb’s incoming CEO Christopher Boerner, Eli Lilly & Co’s CEO David Ricks, Medtronic chairman & CEO Geoff Martha, Takeda Pharmaceuticals CEO Christophe Weber and Nobel Laureate and Johns Hopkins School of Medicine’s Prof Gregg Semenza. Usually, regular updates on speaker list, sessions, Genome Valley awardees used to start flowing in three to four months before.
Sources attributed lack of progress to model code of conduct for Assembly elections and change of guard. Telangana life sciences & pharma director Shakti Nagappan said announcements would start in a day or so, while industries principal secretary Jayesh Ranjan said, “We are recording a message from our minister tomorrow, which will go on social media inviting people to BioAsia. It’s very much on the cards.”
