Mumbai: AC double-decker bus breakdown due to ‘electronic issue’ | Mumbai News – Times of India

MUMBAI: It was an ‘electronic issue‘ which led to breakdown of an AC electric double-decker bus near Mantralaya on Monday night, sources in the undertaking said on Tuesday, adding that there was no mechanical fault in the bus.
The AC double deckers have not completed a year in Mumbai and the incident, which was unwarranted, should be inquired into, demanded former BMC opposition leader Ravi Raja.
Raja, who has also been in the BEST committee for several years, said that the undertaking should not rely completely on private operators and have its own staff randomly checking wet lease buses for proper maintenance. The AC double deckers have been taken on wet lease and 47 buses are operating in south Mumbai, Kurla, BKC, Bandra and Andheri.
Raja said that there should not be a single issue or breakdown in any bus as it is a public service. “We cannot leave Mumbaikars stranded in the middle of journey due to some technical fault in a bus,” he pointed out.
Sources in BEST said that the bus had stopped functioning mid-way during the journey on Monday night, but the issue was resolved “within minutes”. “The bus was repaired and restarted at the earliest, but as a precautionary measure, the driver decided to take the vehicle to Colaba depot for diagnostic test. Our other AC double deckers are being operated uninterruptedly and there is no issue with any bus or passenger,” the sources said.
The bus was travelling from NCPA to CSMT station and the majority of passengers were office-goers from the Nariman Point area, an official said.
