Patna: The city is set to host ‘Bihar Electric Vehicle Conclave and Expo’, a collaborative initiative by the transport department, Bihar State Pollution Control Board and WRI India, on January 11 to spread awareness about electric vehicles (EVs) and charging infrastructure following the notification of Bihar Electric Vehicle Policy, 2023.
State’s transport minister Sheela Kumari will inaugurate the conclave and discuss the future of sustainable road transport in Bihar.Senior officials from the central government, including Vishal Kapoor, CEO of Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL) and Sudhendu Jyoti Sinha, adviser at NITI Aayog, will be there. Chief secretary Amir Subhani, development commissioner Vivek Kumar Singh, additional chief secretary (road construction) Pratyaya Amrit, additional chief secretary (industries) Sandeep Poundrik and principal secretary (energy) Sanjeev Hans will participate in panel discussions.
Transport secretary Sanjay Kumar Agarwal emphasized the unique opportunity the conclave offers to gain insights into the electric vehicle industry, environment-friendly transportation facilities, EV technology, battery technology, accessories, services and the latest updates.
“The transition to electric mobility is a promising strategy in the light of the rapid depletion of fossil fuels, an increase in fuel costs, and environmental pollution. This conclave will be a significant step towards eco-friendly transportation solutions,” she said.
Abhay Jha, administrator, Bihar State Road Transport Corporation limited (BSRTC), said ten leading EV manufacturing firms will showcase their products in the expo to feature buses, four-wheelers and two-wheelers. “We are ready to display a state-of-the-art exhibition of electric vehicles, providing hands-on information about electric mobility and charging facilities,” he said.
The department is soon going to launch 400 e-buses under the electric bus promotion initiative, in addition to the existing fleet of 25 in a bid to reduce the air and noise pollution in Patna and other districts, including Bhagalapur, Gaya, Darbhanga, Muzaffarpur and Purnia.

Transport secretary ‘misses’ speed signs, fined thrice
The road transport secretary, Anurag Jain, received three challans for speed violation due to poor placement of speed limit signs on Delhi roads. He argued that the signs were not visible to him because they were placed behind a tree. He highlighted the importance of placing road signs at the right spot to ensure visibility for drivers. A study conducted in 2017 found that over 70% of road signage in Delhi did not meet the prescribed norms.
