New Delhi: Union health minister Mansukh Mandaviya has formally inaugurated Rs 1,140-crore health facilities at four central government hospitals in the city.
The facilities, which were inaugurated on Monday, include a doctors’ hostel for Atal Bihari Vajpayee Institute of Medical Research & Dr RML Hospital, an emergency block under Lady Hardinge Medical College (LHMC), a sports injury centre at Safdarjung Hospital, and a hostel and academic blocks for Rajkumari Amrit Kaur Nursing College.
The director of LHMC and associated hospitals, Dr Subhash Giri, said the 864-bed emergency block, which had come up at Sucheta Kriplani Hospital, a tertiary facility, was part of a comprehensive development plan for the institute. The multi-disciplinary facility became functional on July 24, 2023, he added.
It provides round-the-clock medical care, including different investigations, under one roof. The block has 94 beds for the accident & emergency department, 30 disaster beds, 15 operation theatres, two minor OTs, 54 ICU beds, 20 dialysis beds and 600 beds for different specialties.
Director and medical superintendent of RML Hospital Dr Ajay Shukla said the hostel had 824 rooms in three wings for resident doctors and students. “It has a gymnasium, recreational hall and a canteen,” he said, adding that the 20-floor building was constructed at a cost of Rs 196 crore and had been operational since last year.tnn
