Kolkata: The 17th annual sports meet at DPS Megacity, spread over two days, was a show of speed, strength, skill and stamina of kids, participating in track and field events.
A giant screen aired the events, while a drone took aerial shots.
Principal Indrani Sanyal threw open the event, which was graced by pro-vice-chairman Vijay Agarwal, general manager Suman Singh Ganguly, guest of honour professor Shabeena Nishat Omar, officer on special duty, directorate of public instruction, higher education department and academics.Among sports personalities were national basketball player Madhu Kumari, Olympian Sanjay Kumar Rai and footballer Manas Bhattacharya.
The events began with the hoisting of the flag, school song and National Anthem, followed by the lighting of the flame. Students evinced their prowess in various races, martial arts, yoga, tug-of-war and javelin throw.
Classes IV and V kids presented a drill, themed on ICC World Cup Cricket and tiny tots of the pre-primary section on Asian Games.
Senior students marched past to drumbeats by a 50-member school band. Loud cheers, exciting victories and near-misses marked the events on both days. tnn
