PUNE: Two men were detained in Satara on Wednesday by the Pune city crime branch for allegedly supplying firearms to the six men arrested for killing gangster Sharad Mohol.
Three men shot dead Mohol at Sutardara in Kothrud on Friday. Late at night, police arrested six men and two lawyers. The police are looking for the mastermind who plotted the murder.
On Wednesday, police produced the six men – Namdev Kangude, his nephew Sahil Santosh Polekar alias Munna, Vitthal Gandhale, Amar Maruti Kangude alias Amit, Chandrakant Shelke and Vinayak Gavhankar – before a city court.
The magisterial court extended the six men’s custodial remand till January 27.
Assistant public prosecutor Nilam Yadav-Ithape said, “We are questioning the suspects to identify the mastermind, and the source of firearms and persons responsible for supplying weapons to the alleged shooters.” She said the murder took place because of a financial dispute. The police have also arrested two lawyers Ravindra Pawar and Sanjay Udan.
