Panaji: The directorate of education (DoE) has initiated an inquiry after a teacher of the government primary school, Namoshi, Guirim, filed a police complaint of physical and verbal assault by the school in charge teacher Roshni Sakhalkar.
The complaint has been filed by Prarthana Naik, who said Sakhalkar abused her using filthy language and twisted her arm, requiring medical aid.
“Our in charge teacher regularly reports late to work. On the day of the incident, after the school assembly, we wanted to sign the register, but the office door was locked. The incharge teacher, instead of opening the office, was standing in the nearby fields and chatting with some other women,” said Naik.
Naik alleged that she was assaulted when Sakhalkar was abusing another teacher Tejaswi Pokle and Naik tried to intervene.
“She then abused us and began arguing. Later when I went to the class, she came there and twisted my hand. I called the police to come to the school and help me, but when the police arrived she prevented me from going to the police station to file the complaint. But the police managed to send me for a medical examination. She has been harassing us since the last one year. Despite written complaints to the department, there has been no action,” said Naik.
Pokle said that the incharge teacher was sent to the school suddenly a year ago and alleged that they have been facing harassment since.
“She has been threatening us from day one and tells us that she is well-connected and therefore we will not be able to take any action against her. The argument began on Wednesday when she kept the office locked and was not allowing us to sign. She was instead chatting with some women standing in the nearby fields. I tried to click her photo, which enraged her, and she began her abuse,” said Pokle.
“We have ordered an inquiry in the incident,” an official of DoE confirmed.
