UP’s Success in TB Program: Prompt Reporting of Cases and Real Time Data Entry | Lucknow News – Times of India

LUCKNOW: A rigorous real time data entry mechanism, weekly monitoring and resolution of problems on case-to-case basis helped UP improve its performance in the National TB Elimination Programme, shows a recent assessment undertaken by state health and family welfare department.

TB programme

As per the National TB Division framework, performance in any state is scored against nine parameters and UP’s achievement level of 80% indicates its success in the programme.
UP’s accomplishment lies in the fact that UP recorded a score of 85.3% on the overall scale for calendar year 2023 – a notable jump since 2021 when its score was about 77%. All 75 districts have been able to score more than 82%. According to data on districts, Rampur topped with 92.8 points, followed by Pratapgarh (91.6) and Bijnore (90.8). Kheri (82.2), Kanpur Nagar (83) and Gautam Budh Nagar (83.1) ranked among bottom three. State capital Lucknow held 70th position among districts with a score of 83.4%.
Crediting the achievement to effective monitoring, an official spokesperson informed that Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had put TBEP on high priority and takes regular stock of the situation periodically. “The milestone demonstrates Yogi government’s commitment to fulfilling the Prime Minister’s resolution to make the country TB-free by 2025,” they said.
Director general health UP, Dr Brijesh Rathore, said, “The monitoring and periodic reviews by the CM left no room for laxity at any level.”
State TB officer Dr Shailendra Bhatnagar said UP scored full marks in ‘TB notification’, the first step towards elimination. Since 2021, UP has been able to contain TB cases heading to medical facilities in the private sector. The state recorded 99% notifications in 2023.
“Adopting real time data entry of TB cases helped increased our private sector notification rate. Weekly monitoring and case to case basis resolution of problems in the lowest and weak performing centres helped in weeding out the loose ends,” said Dr Bhatnagar. The health assessment also comprised a division-wise score, wherein Moradabad division ranked first with 89.5 points, followed by Prayagraj (89.1) and Aligarh (88.6).
