Hyderabad: Nearly a week after a person was found murdered at Malakpet railway station, railway police on Thursday said that it was a case of murder for gain. The accused, Mohammed Sohail, who was taken into custody on Wednesday, told cops that he killed the man while stealing his mobile phone which was worth 1,700.
On Wednesday, Sohail was moving around suspiciously at Yakutpura railway station when he was taken into custody. He turned out to be a repeat offender. During the questioning, he confessed to killing the unidentified man.
“Sohail is a vagabond and has committed offences at railway stations in the past. Sohail claimed he had seen the victim at railway stations on several occasions. On the day of murder on January 6, Sohail tried to steal his cellphone and other valuables. When the man resisted, Sohail stabbed him to death,” Kachiguda inspector R Yellappa said.
Hours after the murder, the accused allegedly went to Mahatma Gandhi Bus Station where he sold the mobile to an unknown person.
