Ne Monsoon To Withdraw Around Jan 15: Imd | Chennai News – Times of India

CHENNAI: After a wet January, the IMD on Thursday said the northeast monsoon may withdraw from the state around January 15. Weathermen said the days may begin to get pleasant and warm while nights may get cold during Pongal.
IMD has forecast dry weather from this weekend. Bloggers said night temperatures may drop below 20°C in the city’s suburbs and could drop further over some interior parts of Tamil Nadu next week.
“Conditions are becoming favourable for cessation of northeast monsoon rains over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, Kerala, Mahe and adjoining areas of coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam, Rayalaseema and south interior Karnataka around January 15,” an IMD bulletin said. The city recorded nearly 109cm of rain during the October-December period. So far in January 2024, the monsoon brought 6cm rainfall to the city.
For the next 48 hours, the city and the suburbs are likely to have partly cloudy skies with temperatures touching a maximum of 31°C and a minimum of 22-23°C. IMD has forecast dry weather to prevail over Tamil Nadu between January 13 and 17.
Blogger Pradeep John said a high-pressure in the atmosphere over Arabian Sea may lead to sunny weather during the day and temperatures dropping below 20°C at night starting next week. High pressure is normally associated with clear skies.
“Between January 15 and 18, interior parts of the city may record below 20°C at night. Temperatures may drop below 18°C in some parts of the state,” he said.
