KANPUR: On the way to attend their coaching classes, two teenage girls were hit by a train as they were crossing the tracks in Jalaun on Saturday morning. One of the injured, Kajol (17), was declared dead at hospital while her friend Varsha (18) was critically injured and was undergoing treatment. Police said the two were apparently unable to assess the distance and speed of the approaching train due to dense fog.On receiving the information, the local people informed the police and admitted one among the injured students to the medical college in Orai. The body of the other girl was sent for post-mortem.
Kajol, daughter of Rajkumar alias Raju Ahirwar, resident of Aer village of Jalaun, was a high school student. The injured Varsha, also in high school and a native of Muskara, lives with her aunt in Indira Nagar locality of Orai.
Dr. Rajesh Kumar Maurya, principal of Orai Medical College, said that the critically injured girl has been referred to Ganesh Shankar Vidyarthi Memorial medical college in Kanpur. Orai Kotwali police station inspector Virendra Kumar Patel said that the unfortunate incident took place at 6.30 am. “There was very dense fog at that time, due to which the girls could not see the approaching train and were hit by it. The deceased’s family members, who stay in Aer village under Dakor police station of the district, were informed and have arrived to take the body,” Patel said. tnn
