Noida: A 35-year-old man, facing trial in a dowry death case, slashed his throat with a blade while he was being taken to the Surajpur court for a hearing. The man, who is out on bail, has been admitted to a nearby hospital.
The undertrial, Shivam Singh, was booked on charges of dowry death in March 2022 after his wife was found dead at their residence in Greater Noida’s Pawli village. The woman’s parents submitted a complaint at Jarcha police station and subsequently, Singh was arrested and sent to judicial custody.
On Friday, a senior officer said Singh was to appear before the additional district judge’s fast-track court as the statements of the complainants in the case were to be recorded. “Singh reached the court while the hearing was on. He suddenly took out a blade, hidden on him, and slit his neck,” the officer said.
The man was immediately taken to a dispensary on the court’s premises and later admitted to a nearby hospital where he is still under treatment.
After the incident, the hearing in the case was adjourned for the day.
