Ludhiana: Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) arrested Ashok Kumar, a private associate of patwari Chamkour Singh, posted at Giaspura, Ludhiana for accepting a bribe of Rs 6,000. A bribery case has been registered against the patwari, who escaped from the spot.
VB spokesman said that Ashok Kumar was arrested on the basis of a complaint filed by Rakesh Kumar, a resident of Kohara village, district Ludhiana.The complainant approached the VB and alleged that the patwari and his accomplice demanded a Rs 6,000 bribe from him for mutation of his newly-purchased plot and to take copies of fard (a property document) to get loan.
The spokesman said that after preliminary investigation of this complaint, VB Ludhiana unit laid a trap and nabbed Ashok Kumar red-handed in the presence of two official witnesses while taking bribe from the complainant. Efforts are being made to arrest the patwari, who escaped from his office. A case has been registered under the Prevention of Corruption Act against both the accused at the Vigilance Bureau, police station, Ludhiana Range. Further investigation is on. tnn

The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) arrested Sitarampura sarpanch, Pradeep Sharma, and a broker from near Diggi area in Tonk district, on Sunday evening for accepting a bribe of Rs 1.80 lakh. This amount was taken in exchange for approving a bill worth approximately Rs 36.5 lakh for materials supplied during various construction projects carried out in the Panchayat a year ago.
