Poor water supply in Wakad; temporary issue | Pune News – Times of India

Pune: Several housing societies in the Wakad area of Pimpri Chinchwad are receiving water supply at low pressure for past few days.
While the residents feared water cuts could be the reason for it due to less rainfall last year, the officials from the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) said it is a temporary problem and supply to affected societies will be regularised soon.
“Water supply situation in our society has worsened in the last five days. Five days ago, we received 140 units of water in six hours which reduced to 48 units on Wednesday. The next day we received only 27 units of water,” Nikit Dongaonkar, a resident of Maxima Society in Wakad, said.
“There is already alternate day water supply from the corporation and if we do not get enough water on the allocated day then we will struggle even for drinking water,” he added.
“The duration of water supply in our area from the PCMC has reduced for the last few days. Due to this our demand for water tanker has increased from 12 tankers in December to 14 tankers now,” Hariom Singh from Armada Society said.
Dattatray Deshmukh, chairman of Pimpri Chinchwad Cooperative Housing Society Federation, said “Two months ago, a meeting was held with the municipal corporation following a PIL filed in court and the officials concerned were directed to check issues related to water supply by personally visiting the sites. However, nothing of that sort has happened despite the court’s order..”
A PCMC official told TOI, “In Wakad, supply to some societies was shifted to another line due to the ongoing work at Datta Mandir road. This was the reason behind few housing societies getting less water. It is a temporary issue and will be resolved soon. There is no change in the current schedule of water supply in Pimpri Chinchwad.”
