RTA Conducts Crackdown on Buses Violating Rules for Sankranti Festivities | Hyderabad News – Times of India

Hyderabad: Regional Transport Authority (RTA) officials on Saturday conducted checks on buses going to Andhra Pradesh and various parts of Telangana for Sankranti festivities. According to officials, 136 contract carriage buses were booked for non-compliance.
Hundreds of buses, both private and government, plying from the city were checked by officials with special camps having been set up at LB Nagar, Aramghar and Uppal.
“The major violations are related to permit conditions such as charging extra fares, not having general merchandise, plying without safety precautions among others,” C Ramesh, the joint transport commissioner for Hyderabad and Secunderabad, said.
From these buses, a compounding fee was collected amounting to 2.5 lakh and 4.17 lakh collected towards tax and penalty. A few of the buses, which were found having major violations, were also seized and kept aside until relevant fixtures/changes were made.
“We seized about 15 buses on Saturday as they did not have relevant fire safety equipment. For the last one week, despite several reminders being served, some bus operators have failed to keep safety gears,” a motor vehicle inspector said.
