Pune: Three weeks before gangster Sharad Mohol’s murder on January 5, prime accused and alleged shooter Sahil alias Munna Polekar and his maternal uncle Namdev Kangude had fired a round each from their pistols at his friend, Ajay Sutar (27). The shooting had followed a quarrel in Bhugaon, after Sutar had refused to be a part of the plot to eliminate Mohol.
“Sutar, a resident of Kasar Amboli in Mulshi, at the time sustained two bullet wounds to his legs and was treated at a hospital. He did not disclose the reason behind the firing as he and the assailants were friends and drunk when the quarrel broke out,” inspector Manojkumar Yadav of the Paud police told TOI.
It is only now that ongoing investigations into Mohol’s murder revealed this aspect. A case of attempt to murder has been registered by the Paud police against Polekar and Kangude, who are in the custody of the Pune crime branch at present. The probe also revealed that the arrested suspects had carried out a firing training session twice in Hadshi village of Mulshi prior to eliminating Mohol. “We registered two separate cases under sections of the Indian Arms Act against Polekar, Kangude and others, who participated in these two sessions,” Yadav said.
The officer said that Sutar, who has now lodged a complaint with the police, stated that on the night of December 17 last year, Polekar and Kangude met him in the parking lot of a housing complex in Bhugaon. They were sitting in a car. “According to the complainant, Polekar told him about the plot to eliminate Mohol and asked him to be part of it,” Yadav said.
