Patna: CPI(ML) state secretary Kunal on Sunday announced that the party would conduct a weeklong statewide “padyatra (foot march)” from January 24 to mark the birth anniversary of socialist leader Karpoori Thakur.
“The padyatra will end on January 30, the martyrdom day of Mahatma Gandhi. The theme of the padyatra is ‘Save Constitution, save democracy’.It will start from Samastipur and end at Ara in Bhojpur district. Party’s general secretary Dipankar Bhattacharya will address rallies at Samastipur and Ara,” Kunal told reporters.
He added the CPI (ML) would also try to counter the BJP’s bid to “use the occasion of Ram Temple inauguration in Ayodhya for political gains”.
Kunal also announced the CPI(ML)’s support to the February 16 nationwide general strike called by Samyukt Kisan Morcha, central trade unions, as well as federations and associations of workers.
Asked about seat-sharing among the state’s Grand Alliance partners for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, Kunal said the process was on. “The primary aim of one and all should be defeating the BJP,” he added.
