GURGAON: The body of a 35-year-old woman was found dumped in the bushes near Chandrasekhar farmhouse in the Aravalis on Saturday morning, police said on Sunday.
Preliminary investigation indicates that the assailant bashed her head and face with a stone to make it difficult to identify her.
According to city police, the deceased was identified as Sukhiya, originally from Madhya Pradesh and currently a resident of Badhshapur’s Indira colony. SHe used to work as a daily wage earner in the city.
Police said her body was discovered by a group of four women who were collecting firewood in the area on Saturday morning. The women promptly informed a forest guard about the body. The guard, Pawan Bharadwaj, then filed a police complaint in the matter at the Bhondsi police station on the same day.
“The woman’s body was tucked away in the bushes. Her face and head showed signs of injury, likely caused by a stone. She was covered in blood, making recognition difficult. It seemed that the perpetrator deliberately used the stone to disfigure her face… I immediately informed my senior about the matter and he later advised me to report the case to the police,” Pawan said.
Police dispatched a team of forensic experts along with a K-9 squad to inspect the crime scene. The victim’s body was sent to the district mortuary, where an autopsy was conducted, and was later identified by her family members.
An unknown assailant likely attempted to hide the woman’s identity by distorting her face, a police officer told TOI.
A case was filed and an FIR was registered under sections 302 (murder) and 201 (destruction of evidence) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at the Bhondsi police station on Saturday.
“We are investigating the matter and analyzing all the evidence. We will take actions as per the law,” said inspector Samer.
