Power bills delayed; no action: Lesa Lucknow | Lucknow News – Times of India

Lucknow: Animesh Singh of Indiranagar has been making frantic calls to Lucknow electricity supply administration (Lesa) to enquire about the delay in issuing the electricity bill for the month.
Several others across the city also haven’t received this month’s electricity bill. With the last date of bill payment already past, consumers fear slapping of surcharges or snapping of electricity supply.Taking note of the mounting cases of delayed billing, Madhyanchal Vidyut Vitaran Nigam Limited (MVVNL) on Monday said the department is implementing a new billing regime and consumers would not be penalised for the delay.
Under the new regime, the meters of all consumers having domestic connections of 5-9KW will be billed using a meter reading instrument (MRI). “We are adopting MRI readings of the meters of these consumers from this month onward. Consumers need not panic as no action will be taken to snap power connections of such consumers,” MVVNL said in a circular.
MRI has been in use for all connections above 10KW. The department now wants to introduce it for 5-9 KW load to check revenue leakage. “There are cases where the reported power consumption is 5KW but actual consumption is more. So, this device will detect the actual load and generate a bill accordingly. It will eliminate any human intervention to tamper meters. This would make billing a lot more transparent and mutually beneficial for the department and the consumers,” said Lesa trans-Gomti chief Sunil Kapoor.
