CHENNAI: AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami on Tuesday said it was time to end “the tyranny of the DMK regime”.
In an epistle to cadres on the eve of party founder M G Ramachandran’s 107th birth anniversary, the former chief minister exuded confidence about the AIADMK getting a massive mandate of the people. “The cadres and functionaries should take a vow on the birth anniversary of Puratchi Thalaivar (MGR) to defeat the evil forces in the (Lok Sabha) elections,” Palaniswami said.
He directed partymen to hold public rallies across the state to honour the late chief ministers, M G Ramachandran, and J Jayalalithaa. The partymen should join hands to protect the lives of millions of people affected by natural disasters and abandoned by administrators and provide them welfare assistance, he said.
He charged the DMK government with oppressing the people by increasing taxes and charges for essential services. “Since the regime was looting taxpayers’ money and is steeped in corruption, it was unable to evolve proper schemes and protect the people from natural calamities,” he alleged. “The DMK regime has turned into a destructive force that destroys the people,” Palaniswami said.
Showering encomiums on MGR, who was three-time chief minister, Palaniswami said millions of cadres and people revered the leader while those coming into the film industry today were making attempts to be famous like him. “And, those plunging into politics today are making vows to follow his path. This is testimony to the kind of life the great leader lived during his lifetime,” he added.
MGR, with his hard work, ability, and perseverance, reached great heights that no one has touched. His benevolence had been protecting the party founded by him and could not be overthrown by rivals after his demise, Palaniswami said.
