Guwahati: Assam government has decided to create over 42 lakh new beneficiaries under the National Food Security Act (NFSA), who will also get a health cover of Rs 5 lakh in government hospitals and in some designated nursing homes in the state.
Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma inaugurated the ceremonial distribution of the ration cards and distributed the same to the beneficiaries of the Jalukbari assembly constituency in a public meeting held in the Maligaon area of the city on Tuesday.
Inaugurating the event, which was simultaneously organized in many across the state, Sarma termed the addition of more than 42 lakh new beneficiaries under the NFSA in the state as a milestone decision in the current government’s quest to achieve food security for all the citizens.
Under the scheme, every member of the families with the ration card are entitled to get 5kg of rice every month without any cost. The facility will be available every month during the “anna sewa saptah”. For this month, the facility shall be available till January 31.
With the addition of 42,85,745 new beneficiaries under the NFSA in Assam, another 10,73,489 families will benefit from it.
