JAIPUR: The Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) may soon start a drive against the Residents’ Welfare Associations for not implementing proper rules related to the gates of colonies. Officials claimed that they had received a few complaints alleging that the RWAs are not maintaining the norms properly and JDA may soon start a drive on the basis of these complaints.
“Most complaints are against the RWAs who are closing gates of the colonies before or after the stipulated time. There are gates on roads that are more than 40 feet and should be considered as main roads. Yet, RWAs are closing these gates. JDA would soon act on these complaints,” said a senior JDA official.
Officials stated that in most cases the complainants are raising complaints that RWAs are closing gates even at 8pm or at 9pm although the rule clearly states that gates should be closed only from 10pm to 5am if the RWA appoints a security guard for the colony.
This rule was revised during Covid-19 pandemic and during that time a few norms related to colony gates had been relaxed thinking about the well-being of the residents of the colony.
“During that time, several RWAs had informed us that public places inside the colonies are organizing functions and other events even beyond 10pm and outsiders are thronging the colonies till the time such programmes get over. Considering the court verdict that restricts sound beyond a certain decibel after 10pm, we had also allowed RWAs to close gates from 10pm. But there are certain other norms that RWAs need to fulfill,” said a senior official of the enforcement department.
The complainants also include a section of local residents. They are claiming that RWAs are closing gates of the colonies so they have to take huge diversions at night to reach their homes. There are complaints where residents had requested JDA to remove the gates.
“I stay on a road no less than 60 feet. The RWA is closing the gate on the main road of the colony that connects to Govind Marg, that too after 8pm every day. I had to take a huge diversion to reach home even before 10pm. In fact, the deadline of 10pm is also illogical as Jaipur doesn’t sleep at that time. I want JDA to remove the gate,” said Manish Manchandani, a resident of Frontier Colony in Adarsh Nagar.
