BENGALURU: The Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) , which is facing a severe shortage of drivers, conductors, and other staff, on Wednesday, issued appointment orders to new technical staff. The new appointments are being made after a gap of eight years.
Due to multiple factors including the pandemic, the Corporation could not appoint new staff. Last year, the state government permitted the Corporation to recruit 300 technical staff. A total of 264 candidates met the eligibility criteria.
A press release from the KSRTC stated that the newly appointed staff will be considered as trainees for a period of one year with a stipend of Rs 14,000 per month. At present, the Corporation has 4588 technical staff including 353 women.
The Transport Minister said that a total of 13,888 posts of drivers, conductors have been vacant since 2016. “Shortage of staff impacted on the operation of bus services. New recruitment will help the corporation to provide better services. In March, measures will be taken to recruit more technical staff,” he said.
