Merry Christmas saw a minor dip in numbers on Day 5 at the box office. The film which stars Katrina Kaif and Vijay Sethupathi in lead roles, completed its first Tuesday at the box office with a total collection of Rs 1.15 core, according to early estimates on sacnilk.com.
The Sriram Raghavan film which made a decent start at the box office with a collection of Rs 2.45 core, saw numbers slowly rise over the weekend, earning Rs 3.45 and Rs 3.83 crore, on Saturday and Sunday, respectively.
However, the thriller saw a huge 56.92 per cent dip in numbers on its first Monday, collecting an estimated Rs 1.65 crore.The total collections of Merry Christmas now stand at an estimated Rs 12.53 crore.
According to reports, the movie earned another Rs 2.5 crore from overseas markets, pushing its gross collection to an estimated Rs 16 crore.
News of the minimal box office performance has not stopped the buzz around the film’s possible sequel, allegedly in the works. In a conversation with IndiaToday.com, director Raghavan confirmed that the film will not have sequel as he ‘planned to make a small movie’.
He further added,” I think of what will happen but will it be dramatically interesting? Is it worth showing or is it best to be left with the feeling that it’s a Christmas special and what you feel is more important and that is something that needs to stay.”
