Ludhiana: Punjab vigilance bureau, in its ongoing drive against corruption, on Thursday arrested a head constable from Kailash Nagar police post under Ludhiana’s Division Number 8 for taking a bribe of Rs 5,000.
A bureau spokesperson said Mandeep Singh was deployed as “thana munshi” and has been arrested on the complaint lodged by Mahidev Parsad of Haibowal.
“The complainant had approached the vigilance bureau, stating that his hosiery unit is situated on the first floor of a building.He had taken the space on rent from one Satinderpal Singh three years ago. According to Parsad, Satinderpal had lodged a complainant against him at the Kailash Nagar police post over some payment issue. The complainant alleged that Mandeep had already taken Rs 30,000 from him in the name of police post in-charge and other cops to handle the matter,” the spokesperson said.
He said after a preliminary investigation into this complaint, vigilance bureau laid a trap and caught the accused red-handed. A case under the Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against the accused, he said, adding that the role of police post in-charge would also be examined during the probe.
