Panaji: The high court of Bombay at Goa has directed the Goa electricity department and the panchayat of Penha de Franca to immediately disconnect electricity supply to hoardings showing the name of Majestic Pride, and another adjacent to it, which overlook the Mandovi. The court ordered that the hoardings be covered with cloth.
The division bench directed the panchayat to convey its order to the landlord and vendor concerned.
Senior advocate and amicus curiae S D Lotlikar submitted two photographs showing the hoardings illuminated which were supposed to be covered with cloth and have their electricity connection disconnected, as the high court had ordered earlier.
Advocate Pravin Faldessai representing the village panchayat of Penha de Franca told the court that the electricity connection has not been disconnected.
Advocate general Devidas Pangam submitted that 21 representations of objections raised by 21 parties sent to the Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority will be disposed of in the next meeting scheduled by the end of this month.
Pangam added that the directorate of panchayats is in the process of disposing of all the appeals. The counsel appearing for the Mapusa Municipal Council handed a list of 15 hoardings within its jurisdiction which have been removed.
