Panaji: After Cumbharjua, several other village panchayats in the state have prohibited the sale of fish, meat and alcohol within their jurisdictions on Monday, when the Ram Mandir will be consecrated in Ayodhya.
Nadora sarpanch Paresh Gawas said that there will be a grand celebration in the village to commemorate the consecration of the Ram Mandir. “We have issued a public notice and pasted it at all public places. We have also given a copy of the same to the vendors and shop owners selling meat, fish and liquor, and have requested them to cooperate by keeping their shops closed,” he said.
The notice issued by Gawas on Saturday states that if any of the shop owners are found not obeying the order, “strict action” will be taken against them by the panchayat authorities.
The acting sarpanch of Pirna panchayat, Shobha Sawant, has issued a general notice making an appeal to all vendors of fish, mutton, and chicken, bar and wine shop owners and operators of fast food stalls within the jurisdiction of the panchayat to shut operations on Monday.
The Assonora panchayat has made a similar appeal to outlets selling non-vegetarian food and alcohol within its jurisdiction.
“We are not compelling anyone to close their business. We have just made an appeal asking them to participate in our celebrations,” said a panchayat member.
