Ponda: Somnath alias Suraj Thanekar, 30, a resident of Khadaki-Sattari, sustained minor injuries after his two-wheeler hit a wild boar that was crossing the road at Par-Usgao on Saturday morning. The wild animal also died in the accident.
“We rescued the wild boar but but it died while being shifted to Dhavali forest rest house for observation,” Ponda range forest officer Deepak Tandel said.
A villager, who witnessed the accident, said that Thanekar was riding at a steady pace, and when the wild boar suddenly stepped on to the road, he lost control over the vehicle and fell off the bike after hitting the animal.
He was taken to the sub-district hospital Ponda and the forest office was also informed about the injured boar.
South Goa deputy conservator of forests Jiss Varkey said the dead wild boar was buried behind Dhavali forest rest house after a panchanama was done.
The stretch of the Par-Usgao road has turned into a accident proze over the last few years.
