Sardesai opposes draft master plan for Margao | Goa News – Times of India

Margao: Goa Forward Party (GFP) president Vijai Sardesai on Saturday lashed out at Margao MLA Digambar Kamat for not making public the draft master plan prepared by the Goa State Urban Development Agency (GSUDA) and holding a presentation for only a select group of invitees. He has demanded a comprehensive re-evaluation of the plan.
Addressing the media, Sardesai termed the master plan a “conspiracy” to hand over the lands acquired by Congress government during 2007-2012 in the name of various projects, in what he termed a great land grab scam, to landsharks now.
“Three lakh sqm of land of farmers was acquired for various projects which after 10 years are yet to see the light of the day,” Sardesai said. “The farmers of Fatorda were dispossessed of their lands they were cultivating. The master plan is another attempt at land grab. I won’t allow an inch of farmers’ lands to be touched. This is an anti-farmer master plan.”
Stating that he too has been kept in the dark about the master plan, the Fatorda MLA said he would raise the issue in the state legislative assembly.
“This master plan is Digambar’s plan. His plans are mere dreams, they never actualise. The draft master plan lacks inclusivity and transparency — that is the hallmark of the Margao MLA’s model of development,” Sardesai said. In a further dig at Kamat for allegedly appeasing his migrant vote bank, Sardesai said that while the Margao MLA’s model of development was “Moti Dongor model”, his was that of “development by consent,” even as he challenged him for an open debate over the issue.
Sardesai further questioned the propriety of the authorities in preparing a master plan for the city when there exists an Outline Development Plan (ODP) for Margao. “The master plan and ODP should gel with each other,” he said.
