Gurgaon: Six years after the announcement of a Science City in the state, CM Manohar Lal Khattar, on Saturday, said it would come up on 50 acres in Faridabad or Gurgaon.
“The Haryana government is determined to promote science and technology education and innovations and will establish a Science City on 50 acres in Faridabad or Gurgaon. We are looking for suitable land,” Khattar said at the closing ceremony of the International Science Festival in Faridabad.
In 2018, Khattar met Union culture minister Mahesh Sharma about the project and obtained his in-principle approval.Under the aegis of the National Council of Science Museums, the Union culture ministry provides for a Science City in every state, subject to funds’ availability.
So far, three states have a Science City — West Bengal (Kolkata), Punjab (Jalandhar) and Gujarat (Ahmedabad) — and officials had claimed the Haryana one would be on a more ambitious scale than Science City, Kolkata.
