PATNA: A 21-year-old youth was arrested in Araria district on Saturday for threatening to blow up the Ayodhya temple on the occasion of its consecration ceremony on January 22.
The accused, posing himself as an associate of India’s most wanted gangster Dawood Ibrahim, made hoax calls on Dial 112 of Araria police, threatening to blow up the temple.
According to police, the man, identified as Mohd Intakhab and claimed to be Chhota Shakeel of Dawood Ibrahim gang, made several calls around 9pm on Friday.He is the son of Mohd Ibrahim, a resident of Kaliyaganj in the district.
Araria SP Ashok Kumar Singh said the calls were received on Dial 112 and district police headquarters. “Considering the sensitivity of the matter, the technical branch of Araria police obtained the call details of the person immediately. The mobile number was put on surveillance and the location was tracked. Acting on the input received by the technical team, the Palasi police raided his house and arrested him. The mobile phone used in making the hoax calls has also been seized,” he said.
The SP said the accused was sent to jail after interrogation. His mobile phone will be sent for forensic examination by the experts. “The accused seemed to be mentally instable. The actual reason behind making such hoax calls is being investigated,” he added.
