Mumbai: The city saw its coldest day of the season on Sunday as the minimum temperature recorded by at the Met’s Santacruz observatory dipped to 16.1 degrees Celsius. The previously recorded lowest minimum temperature for the season was 16.2 degrees Celsius on January 16.
Met officials said the reason for the chill is north westerly winds and comfortable weather condition is likely to continue.
However, IMD’s records show that in the past years, the month of January has recorded even lower minimum temperatures than what was recorded on Sunday. Last year, the lowest minimum temperature was 13.6 degrees Celsius on January 15 while in 2022, it was 13.2 degrees Celsius on January 10.
On Sunday, the Colaba observatory recorded minimum temperature of 19.8 degrees Celsius.
Independent weather experts said this is most likely the season’s last cold spell which could continue till January 26.
Sunday’s day temperatures in the city continued to remain below 30 degrees at Colaba and Santacruz observatories. IMD’s forecast for Monday is that maximum and minimum temperatures will be around 30 degrees and 17 degrees respectively.
