Lucknow: With no sunshine for the third consecutive day, the city continued to shiver making Sunday the second coldest day of the season so far with maximum temperature of 12.6 degrees Celsius (9.1 units below normal).
Saturday was the coldest day of the season for the city till now with maximum temperature dropping to 11.8 degrees Celsius (9.2 units below normal).
According to the met department, no relief from cold conditions is expected till Thursday. Cool winds and fog during morning hours made people remain indoors even on Sunday.
The maximum and minimum temperatures in the city were recorded at 12.2 and 7.3 degrees Celsius respectively.
“Cold conditions will continue till Thursday. No relief is expected as the dry icy northwesterly winds from the hills of north India will continue to lash the city. Jet stream winds over the northern plains led to the subsidence of these winds leading to severe cold,” said Mohammad Danish, senior scientist at the state met department.
He said throughout the week the maximum temperature of the city will be between 14 and 18 degrees Celsius while the minimum temperature will be in the range of 6 to 8 degrees Celsius. On Monday maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be 14 and 6 degrees Celsius respectively.
He said dense to very dense fog is very likely in the state. Cold day to severe cold day is very likely at several places all over the state. The weather is likely to remain dry over the state. Agra with 4.1 degrees Celsius was the coldest in the state followed by Aligarh and Orai at 4.2 degrees Celsius.
