NEW DELHI: Several flights at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI) were delayed on Monday due to low visibility caused by fog. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted that visibility may reduce in moderate fog and then improve with shallow fog.
The IMD also predicted that dense fog conditions are likely to occur in isolated places in Delhi tonight and on January 25. Additionally, dense fog is expected in isolated pockets over Delhi, Bihar, and Odisha on January 23. The weather forecast states that dense to very dense fog conditions are expected in the morning over parts of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Uttar Pradesh until January 26 morning.
Furthermore, several trains bound for the national capital were running behind schedule. The Northern Railways issued an official statement mentioning the delays, with the 12801 Rewa-Anand Vihar Express having the longest delay of 5.45 hours, followed by the 12716 Amritsar-Nanded Express with a delay of 5.30 hours. At 5:30 a.m. today, visibility at various locations was as follows: Jammu Division had 500-meter visibility, Patiala in Punjab recorded only 50-meter visibility, Palam and Safdarjung in Delhi had 500-meter visibility, Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh struggled with 25-meter visibility, Prayagraj had 50-meter visibility, Gaya in Bihar reported 25-meter visibility, and Patna had 200-meter visibility.
On January 21, minimum temperatures were below normal by 2-4 degree Celsius in many parts of Haryana-Chandigarh-Delhi, West Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Madhya Pradesh. The lowest minimum temperature of 2.8 degree Celsius was reported in Hissar, Haryana.
