New Delhi: To procure 100% renewable energy by the end of 2025, New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) has tied up with multiple PSUs in the sector. Last year, the total power consumption in NDMC’s jurisdiction was 400 megawatt (MW) and only 20MW was supplied through solar plants.
“The NDMC has given consent to procure 150 MW solar power from the Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam, a public sector undertaking, and implementation period for the project is 36 months after signing of agreement.Likewise, NDMC has given consent to procure 100 MW from Solar Energy Corporation of India and a petition to finalise tariff has been filed to DERC. Its implementation period is 24 months from the date of signing agreement,” said NDMC vice chairman Satish Upadhyay.
The council claimed to have installed 20 MW solar power plants on rooftop (grid and net metered connected). Under the rooftop solar policy introduced last year, residential properties, institutions and offices were invited to install solar panels on their rooftops. This policy is applicable for any solar energy generated system with a capacity of 1 KWp or more.
“Apart from that, we have entered into bilateral arrangements with renewable energy generators through NTPC Vidyut Vyapar Nigam Limited (NVVNL) to meet the requirements as and when required,” said Upadhyay.
