Truck driver arrested for smuggling gravel sand in Coimbatore | Coimbatore News – Times of India

Coimbatore: A truck driver was arrested on Saturday for smuggling six units of gravel sand at Vadachittur. Police also seized a tipper truck with the smuggled sand.
Negamam police identified the arrested as R Bablu Mahato, 44, from Bihar. On Saturday, Madhukannan, village administrative officer (VAO) of Mettuvavi village, received a tip off from Sivakumar, Kinathukadavu tahsildar on illegal sand smuggling.
Madhukannan immediately conducted a vehicle check, during which he apprehended a tipper truck. On checking, he found six units of smuggled gravel sand. He lodged a police complaint and handed over the truck and its driver to police.
Police booked the driver under sections 379 of the Indian Penal Code for theft, and 21 (1) of the Miners and Minerals (development and regulation) Act.
He was produced before a judicial magistrate and remanded in judicial custody. He was later lodged at the Coimbatore central prison.

Police nabbed the accused, Firoz, a native of Uttar Pradesh, in Geeta colony. The truck driver was intercepted and nabbed successfully. Analysis uncovered a crucial clue – a non-functional front light and missing digits on the back of the vehicle.
