5,535 Cops Trained for Probe to Join Duty by February 10 | Patna News – Times of India


Patna: A total of 5,535 constables were deployed as investigating officers in various districts of the state on Monday after completing the six-month training under ‘Mission investigation @ 75 days’ of Bihar Police.
These constables recently passed PTC and will speed up the investigation in the cases registered in various districts. These trained police personnel will join their designated police stations till February 10, state police headquarters said on Monday.

Altogether 27,500 police officers are needed to investigate the cases registered in the state. Around 3-3.5 lakh cases are registered in the state per year. However, the current strength of the investigating officers is around 15,000 only, which will be increased to 20,000 till February 10 after the trained police personnel join duties. Bihar Police claim to reduce the number of days of investigation to 75 in 2024 by filling up the vacancies, promoting the police personnel and providing special powers to constables for investigation as per the nature of cases.
ADG (HQ) Jitendra Singh Gangwar said, “Earlier, the number of investigating officers increased to 15,000 after the sub-inspectors joined their postings following training. The number of investigating officers will further increase to 20,000 after the trained officials join their respective police stations.”
Gangwar further said the police usually take 265 days to complete an investigation into a case. Bihar Police have set a target to decrease the number of investigation days gradually to 75 days till the end of 2024, he added.
