MUMBAI: The All India Mahila Empowerment Party (AIMEP) has invited Union home minister Amit Shah as chief guest for its Nari Shakti National Conclave on February 7 in New Delhi.
The event aims to honour over 300 Members of Parliament who voted in favour of the Nari Shakti Vandhan Adhiniyam (Women Reservation Act 2023), a bill that reserves one-third of seats for women in the Lok Sabha and state assemblies.
The Nari Shakti Vandhan Adhiniyam, also known as the Women’s Reservation Bill 2023, was passed by both houses of Parliament in September 2023. It is the first legislation to be introduced in the new Parliament building and is seen as a “historic” step towards gender equality in politics.
The AIMEP president and entrepreneur Nowhera Shaik said in a statement that the event will be a grand celebration of women empowerment and democracy. “Our aim with the Nari Shakti National Conclave is to inspire and motivate women across the country. It’s not just about legislation; it’s about creating a cultural shift where women’s voices are heard and valued in every sphere of society,” said Shaik.
Shaik also praised Prime Minister Modi and his government’s commitment to ‘women-led development’. She cited examples of increased female representation in police forces and international recognition for sportswomen.
“Empowering women is not just a political agenda; it’s an investment in the progress of our entire society. We envision a future where every woman has the opportunity to reach her full potential and contribute meaningfully to our nation,” she said.
She expressed hope that the government will continue to work for the dignity and benefits of women in the future.
“As we look ahead, our hope is for sustained efforts towards creating an environment where women can thrive, contribute to the nation’s growth and prosperity,” she said.
