Patna: The Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) on Monday launched a monthlong campaign – ‘Mission 7 to 11’ – to achieve 100% collection of holding tax, user charges and garbage fee from households. The focus of the campaign will be on collection of arrears from big defaulters and tax evaders.
Altogether 57 teams have been formed for revenue collection from all the six circles of the civic body.Each team has two officers to collect pending taxes from households and carry out the assessment of new holdings. Eight teams each have been deputed in Patliputra and New Capital circles, six teams each in Bankipore, Azimabad and Kankerbagh circles and five teams each in Patna City circle.
Municipal commissioner Animesh Kumar Parashar said the civic body has so far managed to collect Rs 70 crore holding tax in the current financial year “In 2022-23, Rs 103 crore was collected as tax and the figure had reached Rs 100 crore by January,” Parashar said.
“Our emphasis is on achieving holding tax collection target before the end of the fiscal year. To intensify the drive, we have launched a special campaign that will continue till February 29. The civic body teams will visit households, commercial buildings and shops between 7am and 11am to collect holding tax and other charges. The teams will also create awareness about segregation of wastes,” he added.
Parashar said the PMC teams would identify the buildings and establishments which have not come under the purview of property tax. “Each team has been given the target to collect Rs 1 crore holding tax by the end of the campaign,” he added.
According to a PMC official, property tax amounting to more than Rs 50 crore has not been paid by various government offices/departments. The PMC has set a target to generate Rs 200 crore revenue from internal sources in the current fiscal.
