MADURAI: Chief minister M K Stalin inaugurated the Kalaignar Centenary Jallikattu Arena in Keelakarai village in Madurai district on Wednesday morning. The 66acre arena near Alanganallur was built at a cost of Rs 44 crore.
The chief minister inaugurated two museums and a library on the premises. He flagged off the first jallikattu event in the arena.
Addressing the gathering, the CM said constructing a jallikattu arena in Madurai, where the Sangam literature had flourished, made the arena even more special.
“In three years of Dravida model rule , the DMK government has established three majestic cultural symbols in Madurai district which includes Keeladi museum, Kalaignar library and Kalaignar Aeruthazhuvuthal arena,” said the CM.
After flagging of the event , the CM witnessed the event for 15 minutes and left the arena. The best bull tamer and the best bull will get a car each as prize from the chief minister at the end of the event.
