HYDERABAD: A tribal farmer-couple from Bhadradri Kothagudem district, who achieved excellent yield by sticking to natural farming, have been invited to participate in the Republic Day celebrations to be held in Delhi.
The Koya couple, Penuballi Gangaraju and Penuballi Laxmi, from Kamalapuram village in Dummugudem mandal cultivated oil palm and vegetables in eight acres of land.For 5,000 to 10,000 that they spent on each acre, their income was 30,000 to 35,000 giving them a profit of 20,000 to 25,000.
The Koya couple also cultivated dragon fruit, mango, apple, custard apple and Taiwanese guava in their farm and got good yields.
The district horticulture officials said the couple from the remote village in the district got the invitation to participate in the Republic Day event on January 26 as they showed how one could get better yields and increase their incomes through adoption of modern methods and natural farming practices.
