Upset that his teenage sister was in love with a youth from another faith, a 21-year-old mason allegedly killed her, by pushing her into a village pond near his native Hirikyathanahalli in Hunsur taluk. Their mother, who went to rescue her daughter, too drowned in the pond.
The bodies of Anitha,45, and Dhanushree,19, a BCom student, were retrieved by the fire and emergency personnel early Wednesday.The incident happened late Tuesday night. Superintendent of police Seema Latkar said accused Nithish,21, has been arrested by Hunsur Rural police.
An officer said the teenager fell in love with a youth in Hanagodu, Hunsur, while she stayed in her grandmother’s house. She was pursuing II PU. After it came to the notice of her brother Nithish, he threatened the youth , police said.
Recently, he came to know that his sister is still in touch with the boy over phone. Later, he allegedly decided to kill her. When Nithish wanted to take her to their relative’s house, and the unsuspecting sister decided to go, their mother doubted her son and went with them.
After reaching Marooru village, he attacked and pushed Dhanurshree into the waterbody at 10.30pm, but the mother helped her. Police said she was pushed into the water by Nithish. As Dhanushree was holding her mother’s sari, the latter too drowned with her, police said.
Nitish returned home, where his father Sathish asked about his mother and sister. The accused said he had pushed them into the water. According to the father, the brother and sister hadn’t spoken to each other for seven months. tnn
