Pune: As many as 120 new CCTV cameras would be installed at the Pune railway station by July, enhancing the security at the facility.
Pune’s divisional railway manager (DRM) Indu Dubey said, “The work to install new CCTV cameras replacing the existing ones has been sanctioned and sent to the Railway Board for approval. We are hoping to get an approval soon, following which tenders would be floated. We are expecting the new cameras to be installed within 6-7 months.”
A senior Railway Protection Force (RPF) officer posted at the Pune station said, “There are a total of 61 cameras at the Pune station, installed in 2013. Their operational age has ended, resulting in the cameras not working properly and not providing clear pictures. The 120 new cameras will include the replacement for the old cameras.”
Harsha Shah, the chairman of the Railway Pravasi Group, said the issue of changing the old CCTV cameras at the station was on for a long time now.
