New Delhi: Delhi’s social welfare minister Raaj Kumar Anand on Thursday asked the department to fast-track the issuance of Unique Disability Identification (UDID) certificates to people with disabilities. The cards help persons with disabilities access government schemes for their social and financial uplift.
Officials said shortage of staff to dispose of the applications, unavailability of medical panels for unique disability identification, and discrepancies in automatic allotment of hospitals by the software were some of the reasons that led to a backlog of applications. There has also been a huge jump in the number of fresh applications due to lucrative stipend given by Delhi government, they added.
“To clear the pending applications, the minister has directed the department to reshuffle the staff; make computers, scanners and printers available, wherever needed; and quickly compile reports received from hospitals,” said an official. The minister, said officials, also set Feb 15 and March 31 as deadlines for digitisation of certifications and issuance of UDID, respectively. tnn
