Lucknow: Congratulating people on the 75th Republic Day, CM Yogi Adityanath on Friday said that the Constitution, which had endured the past so many years, is “supreme” and encouraged one to put the country first. He further added that we need to be “proud of our country’s past and move towards a bright future by making the present beautiful and pleasant”.
Speaking after hoisting the National Flag to mark the day, he credited the Constitution for having established India as a modern democracy, which had given equal rights to all citizens. “There are many countries established as modern democracies, which consider themselves to be the most progressive, but had deprived women of voting rights on the basis of gender discrimination for a long time. Thanks to our Constitution, India ensured the absence of discrimination based on gender, caste, religion, or region. Every adult voter in the country holds the full right to exercise their voting rights,” he said. Recounting the efforts made in implementing the Constitution, Yogi said that it was the world’s largest and not only granted rights to citizens but also outlined their duties towards the nation. By honestly fulfilling their duty, the CM said, citizens would ensure that India would be a developed country within the next 25 years.
Y ogi also paid tributes to Mahatma Gandhi, president of the Constituent Assembly Dr Rajendra Prasad and architect of the Indian Constitution Dr BR Ambedkar.
In his message on social media platform ‘X’, Yogi said: “Hearty congratulations and best wishes to the people of the state on the 75th Republic Day! This national festival not only remembers our immortal fighters but also provides us an opportunity to commit ourselves to the realisation of the concept of ‘Ek Bharat-Shrestha Bharat’. Let us all be determined to build a ‘capable self-reliant India’! Jai Hind!”
Governor Anandiben Pate hoisted the tricolour at the Vidhan Bhawan, after which she and CM released balloons.

Our Constitution, our faiths
The run-up to India’s 75th Republic Day has been overshadowed by the inauguration of the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya. There is a perceived competition between a Hindu republic with Ram as the national icon and a secular republic with the Constitution as its icon. However, the Constitution is compatible with the celebration of a religious hero.
